TSC Agar (Tryptone-Sulfite-Cycloserine)
Tryptose Sulfite Cycloserine (TSC) Agar was described by Harmon for the selective isolation and enumeration of Clostridium perfringens in water and food samples. The medium is also recommended for the enumeration of sulfur-reducing anaerobes from foods of animal origin.
The typical composition corresponds to that defined in the standards NF EN ISO 15213-2, NF EN ISO 14189 and NF V08-061.
Available in dehydrated base medium (without D-cycloserine): 500g container.
Also available in :
10 vials of 200 ml (BM07708)
50 tubes of 20 ml (BM03908)
In compliance with regulatory requirements, a USDA permit (VS 16-3) is mandatory for shipments from Canada to the USA due to the inclusion of peptone, an animal byproduct.
Sulfur reducing microorganisms reduce the sodium sulfite to sulfide, which with ferric citrate forms a black iron sulfide precipitate around the colonies. Contaminating flora is almost totally inhibited by D-Cycloserine which also reduces the size of the black halos around the colonies.
For enumeration of Clostridium perfringens, it is recommended to confirm characteristic colonies.
